Andre Berto traveled to his family’s native Haiti yesterday morning to assist with the urgent relief work taking place in the island nation. Berto has joined forces with The Jack Brewer Foundation (JBF Worldwide) and its Global Ambassadors delegation to provide critically needed emergency relief efforts to the thousands of Haitians displaced by Hurricane Matthew, the catastrophic Category 4 storm that left Haiti in another state of massive devastation on Tuesday, October 4.
Berto is working alongside JBF Worldwide Founder and United Nations Ambassador for Peace & Sport, Jack Brewer and JBF board member and longtime supporter, Chris Cottone, to deliver thousands of dollars in urgently needed medical supplies collected from initial donations made through JBF’s Haiti Emergency Relief Campaign.
JBF and its partners have already helped with the funding and distribution of 15,000 pounds of food to those in need and plan to donate another 15,000+ pounds during this week’s visit. During their trip, the delegation will join efforts with JBF’s partners on the ground including Innovating Health International, The Hope Centre and the Sanneh Foundation’s Haitian Initiative, to deliver desperately needed aide to thousands of Haitians in dire need including: emergency kits, food, water, and medical supplies throughout Port-au-Prince, Cité Soleil and areas of the southern region hit hardest by the storm.
Additionally, the group will pay a visit to the children at the Hope Centre – one of JBF’s supported orphanages in Cité Soleil, the Haitian Initiative youth soccer clinic and feeding program and a cancer center in Port-au-Prince, as well as continue to assess the damage throughout the nation for future ongoing reconstruction efforts.
“As soon as I learned how badly Haiti had been hit by Hurricane Matthew, I knew that I had to get over there as quickly as possible,” Berto said. “The Haitian people are extremely resilient but the damage from this storm is devastating and they badly need all of our help. I’m happy to work with the amazing Jack Brewer Foundation team to bring over medical supplies and food and show the Haitian people that they have our support as they begin to rebuild.”
A 2004 Haitian Olympian and first generation American, Berto is extremely connected to his Haitian roots and visits his native country often with family member and on philanthropic trips. He launched his Berto Dynasty Foundation shortly after the catastrophic 2010 Haitian earthquake and has consistently worked with other charities doing work in the island nation since that time.
Immediately following the storm, JBF Worldwide launched its Haiti Emergency Relief Campaign to fund raise, collect and deliver life-saving goods and aid, and has been working alongside the foundation’s various partners and influencers both in Haiti and the U.S. including: YesJulz, Greentree Financial Group, Wellmax Medical Center and others. 100% of all funds raised will be given directly to JBF’s Haitian partners and civilians on the ground.
