A very gaunt-looking Edwin Rodriguez weighed in at 170 lbs, two pounds over the division limit. He has two hours to lost the extra weight. We’ll keep you posted with the updates on that.
Ward was right on weight without any issue, and was all business at the weigh-ins.
Ward has been extremely confident, as you might expect of a guy riding a 16-year amateur and professional winning streak, and the number 2 pound for pound rated fighter on the planet. He’s even seemed a bit prickly — he’s clearly been itching to get back into action.
Rodriguez is confident too, but it’s his first time in a setting like this, or facing a fighter anywhere near as good. We’ll learn a great deal about him on Saturday evening.
It’ll be great to see the “SOG” back in the ring for the first time in over a year. He’s one of the best fighters in the world, and having him spend 14 months on the shelf is a tough loss. But he’s back, and La Bomba is certainly a legitimate challenger for him.
