Undefeated Stockholm fighter Anthony Yigit (18-0-1, 7 KOs) will face Lenny Daws (30-4-2-, 11 KOs) for European Super Lightweight title.
The European Boxing Union (EBU) have ordered Yigit to meet the former two-time British Champion for the vacant belt following Ruben Nieto’s decision to relinquish the title. Both parties now have until the September 28 deadline to reach an agreement before the fight goes to purse bids.
Yigit, who recorded a unanimous points victory over Armando Robles last Saturday in Stockholm, says he is looking forward to the challenge.
‘’I’m very excited to be fighting for the European title,’’ said the 25 year-old. ‘’I’ve been waiting for this chance for a long time, and now it’s here, I’m going take what’s mine, and bring the belt home to Sweden.
‘’Daws is a tough fighter. He has a lot of experience and has fought for the European belt before. He got an unfortunate decision against Nieto last time and was unlucky not to win. Fighting him, I feel like I’m fighting the best, and if I beat him, it will show that I’m the true champion.’’
Promoter Nisse Sauerland expects the London 2012 Olympian to face a tough test against the British veteran Daws, but believes his fighter will prevail.
‘’This is a big opportunity for Anthony, and one we expect him to take with both hands,’’ said Sauerland. ‘’Lenny is a tough fighter with a lot of experience, but we believe Anthony has what it takes to win.
”We’re currently in negotiations with Lenny’s promoter, and hope to reach agreement soon, if not, we will have purse bids on September 28.’’
