Antonio Orozco Back in the Ring April 23rd

After only needing 90 seconds of the first round to stop his last opponent, junior welterweight Antonio Orozco (9-0, 6KOs) is ready to jump back in the ring and will on Thursday, April 21st, when he faces Hensley Strachan (5-8-1, 1KO) of the Bahamas at the Fight Club OC in Costa Mesa, CA, in a fight card presented by Roy Englebrecht Promotions.

In his last bout which was his first in over seven months, Orozco of San Diego, CA, stopped southpaw Manuel Aguilar with a thundering left hook to the ribs that sent at the time once beaten Aguilar crashing down to the canvas.

“I felt a bit under pressure because of not fighting since last August.  I took into consideration that I might have some ring rust and I was nervous when I was in the corner,” the affable Orozco said.  “I didn’t know what to expect but I was the aggressor and I am happy things turned so well.  I was surprised that the fight ended so quickly but glad.”

2007’s Manager of the Year Frank Espinoza, who helms the career of Orozco as well as Abner Mares, Yhonny Perez and Carlos Molina among others, was a bit surprised that the twenty-three year old Orozco was able to bounce back so fast after the hiatus, “I was taken a little aback at how great Orozco performed, I was expecting for him to take his time but he looked very explosive with his punches, like he was determined to make a statement after his break.  I was really impressed with his combinations to the head and body.  Since that fight ended so quickly, I looked to get him back in the ring right away.”

The father of a three year and three month old, Orozco knows that his next opponent does not look as tough on paper but like always the former amateur standout never takes anybody lightly.

“Every opponent is dangerous because they have two fists and know how to use them,” Orozco explained.  “I have seen his record and he hasn’t fought in almost a year so I think he is going to come as hungry as ever.”

The fact that Orozco doesn’t know much about Strachan only adds to the risk of his next assignment, “I haven’t been able to find anything on Strachan.  I don’t know anything about him, it’s as if I am going in blindfolded but we will be ready for anything.”
