DiBella Entertainment’s IBF #6 rated Super Featherweight, Argenis Mendez (18-2, 9KO’s), returns to action tonight in his native country of the Dominican Republic. It will be Mendez’ first fight since his highly controversial decision loss to Juan Carlos Salgado for the IBF Super Featherweight Championship. The fight, which took place back on September 10 of this year, was held in Salgado’s home country of Mexico, in Zapopan, Jalisco. The world championship bout will be aired on Sunday, November 27, at 7PM ET, on SNY, as part of DiBella Entertainment’s “Broadway Boxing” series.
Mendez, given the controversy from the first fight, had hoped to immediately secure a rematch against Salgado. Rather than wait around for the fight to possibly materialize, Mendez will look to take things into his own hands and work his way back toward another title shot, beginning with his bout tonight against Jose Palma (14-4-2, 9KO’s).
The bout, scheduled for 10 rounds, will take place at the Hotel Jaragua, in Santo Domingo. Headlining the card, which will be aired by ESPN Deportes, will be former world champion Joan Guzman taking on Florencio Castellano for the vacant IBF Caribbean Welterweight Title.
