Hall of Fame promoter, Bob Arum believes Canelo Alvarez would prove too much for Terence Crawford if they ever fought.
Undisputed welterweight champion, Crawford has been calling for an unlikely showdown with undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo since his stoppage win over Errol Spence Jr in July.
The 36-year-old, who would have to jump three weight classes to face the Mexican great, was ringside at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday to see Alvarez drop and dominate Jermell Charlo, who moved up two weight classes himself, on route to a unanimous decision victory.
Arum, who promoted the Omaha man from 2011 until his final bout with Top Rank in 2021, insists that Alvarez, 33, would comfortably beat him.
“I think Canelo wipes the floor with him,” Arum told reporters at the Top Rank gym in Las Vegas.
“I love Crawford. I told you when Crawford and Spence [fought] that Crawford would beat the hell out of him, but Canelo is a different proposition.
“It’s an interesting fight, but I think there’s only one winner.
Asked if he feels Canelo is too big for ‘Bud’, he replied: “Yeah.
“Canelo is used to fighting at a particular level and I don’t think that terence can hurt Canelo, but Canelo can hurt Terence.”
Canelo’s victory over Charlo marked his first bout back with Premier Boxing Champions since signing a three-fight deal with Al Haymon’s company.
The four-weight world champion previously suggested that he would receive very little credit for a victory over Crawford and the 33-year-old dismissed a clash with him in his post-fight press conference.
“I always say with that fight, [if] it makes sense, why not?
“But he’s not in the plan.
