Last Wednesday, undefeated super middleweight Badou Jack “The Ripper” (10-0, 8 KOs) continued his march up the professional ranks with a solid six-round unanimous decision (scores of 60-54, 59-55 and 58-56) over Tennessee’s Grover Young (6-6-1, 3 KOs).
Fighting on the undercard of the sold-out Broadway Boxing event at BB Kings Blues Club & Grill in Midtown Manhattan, the 28-year-old prospect showed off his fearsome body attack and a strong array of punches during a rare opportunity to go the distance.
To his credit, Young hung tough, absorbing the fearsome blows of Jack, the former Olympian and six-time Swedish National Champion.
“The six opponents to beat Grover Young have only one loss combined. We knew he was going to push Badou a little harder than his previous opponents and we’re very happy with the results. Badou kept to the gameplan and showed off the terrific skills he can rely on when he has to,” said Jack’s co-promoter, Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing (Jack is co-promoted by Warriors Boxing and DiBella Entertainment).
According to Margules, the Badou Jack express is travelling at the perfect speed for its destination of a world championship.
“He’s not going to knock everyone out the way he has been, so this fight was great for his development. Badou can box when he needs to and has more than one dimension to his game. This was a good test for him and he passed with flying leather.”
Badou Jack is scheduled to make his ShoBox debut on May 11. Opponent and venue to be announced shortly.
