So impressive was Anthony Joshua in his demolition of Otto Wallin last month, that most observers believe he will appoint Ben Davison as his full time trainer moving forward.
Eyebrows were raised when news broke last year that AJ had been working with Davison at his gym in Essex, given the fact he used to train Joshua’s arch nemesis Tyson Fury.
Davison’s agreement with Joshua had initially been billed as a short term one, however that has quickly changed in the aftermath of the Wallin fight and the pair are expected to continue working together in 2024.
As such, questions have been raised over Davison’s position if Joshua is to fight Tyson Fury, with whom he has always maintained he has a good relationship despite parting ways back in 2019.
Boxing King Media raised this point to the 31 year old – though he didn’t give much away.
“It’s a hypothetical conversation isn’t it, because we’re a million miles away.
“There’s the two fights with Fury and Usyk and AJ’s got other tasks ahead – so that’s the focus at the minute.”
Though it may not be an issue in the coming months, we can’t imagine cornering Joshua against Fury would be a particularly comfortable experience for Davison – however it’d likely be one he would be extremely well paid for.
AJ is rumoured to be back in action this March, once again in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Filip Hrgovic, Zhilei Zhang and Francis Ngannou have all been earmarked as potential opponents.

As Davison mentioned above, Fury has got the small matter of the undisputed heavyweight world championship to contend with, as his crunch showdown with Oleksandr Usyk on February 17th draws ever nearer.
If both men emerge victorious, the stage could be set for them to finally do battle towards the back end of this year.
