Keyshawn Davis sensationally became the new WBO lightweight champion at Madison Square Garden in New York, as he knocked out Denys Berinchyk in the fourth round of their contest on Friday.
Berinchyk (19-1, 9 KOs) won the vacant belt last May against Emanuel Navarrete, taking victory with via split decision, and was making the first defence of his title here. Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) was taking the leap into world championship class for the first time, having never been past ten rounds previously, and he was last out in November 2024, decking Gustavo Lemos three times on the way to a second round win.
The champion struggled to pin down Davis due to the American’s movement. After a better effort from the Ukrainian round two, he was up against it a round later, when a body shot landed, and he was on the deck.
The 36-year-old was being busted up, and with his nose bloodied, his challenge was already fading and the fourth saw the ruthless end to the bout, as Davis unleashed another left hook to the body of Berinchyk, who dropped to his knees, where he stayed, unable to beat the count.
Davis, 25, claimed a maiden world title and could target unifications with IBF titlist, Vasiliy Lomachenko and WBA champion, Gervonta Davis.

Anderson back to winning ways
Jared Anderson returned from defeat against Martin Bakole last time out, and the heavyweight took a safety-first ten round decision win against Marios Kollias (12-4-1, 10 KOs).
Anderson (18-1, 15 KOs) got the nod by two scores of 99-91, and a third at 98-92.

Zayas stops Spomer
Xander Zayas (21-0, 13 KOs) left it late, but managed to find an accumulation of punches to stop Slawa Spomer (20-1, 11 KOs) in the ninth round of their super welterweight meeting.
Zayas retained his NABF and WBO NABO belts in the process and his number one ranking to WBO titlist, Sebastian Fundora.
