Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz to address hundreds of students from the community:
When welterweight stars Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KOs) and Victor Ortiz (28-2-2, 22 KOs), both highly skilled in and outside the ring, take part this Wednesday (April 13th) in a special community outreach event at The Armory on the Hudson, HBO Sports broadcaster Bob Papa will serve as the master of ceremonies. Both Berto and Ortiz will speak with neighborhood high-school students on the importance of staying fit and dealing with family challenges.
The press conference at the Armory (arrivals at 12 noon) for the upcoming welterweight title fight that features Berto and Oritz and then stay and listen in as Berto and Ortiz address and then take questions from the students.
Papa, a Bronx native, joined HBO Sports in 2007 as the blow-by-blow announcer on the late-night franchise “Boxing After Dark.” He is a 1986 graduate of Fordham University. Says Papa: “It’s a privilege to take part in this community outreach event as the high school students participating get the opportunity to hear from two world-class athletes and two accomplished citizens, Andre Berto and Victor Ortiz.”
“East-West Showdown: Berto vs. Ortiz” is presented by DiBella Entertainment, in association with Golden Boy Promotions. The bout will be televised live on HBO’s World Championship Boxing® this Saturday, starting at 9:45 PM ET / 6:45 PM PT. The broadcast kicks off with Amir “King” Khan (24-1, 17 KOs) defending his WBA Super Lightweight World Title against Paul “Dudley” McCloskey (22-0, 12 KOs) from the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England.
