Betting on Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler Rematch:
We’ve been waiting months to see the highly anticipated rematch between the Dane Mikkel Kessler and the Brit Carl Froch, who last fought back in 2010 as part of the Super Six Tournament. Then, Kessler won fairly comfortably, although Froch and his team disputed the decision. Since that time, a lot has changed in the careers of each man, and even with that previous win, Kessler is not coming into the rematch as the betting favorite.
Keep in mind that the betting odds are always shifting right up until the fight. However, right now, Froch is rated as the favorite in the fight, going off at about -240, while Kessler is being given odds of about +190. Of course these are not exactly long odds either, suggesting that plenty will be gambling on the Dane to come out on top again. For boxing fans and betting fans there are a lot of issues at stake in this match, from patriotic support for Froch to the awareness that if Kessler should lose, the Dane has already hinted that he may retire should he fail to win.
Since Kessler defeated Froch in the first match, he has largely been on the shelf with injuries, and hasn’t scored any top-level wins. Froch went on to lose to Andre Ward – who also defeated Kessler before that – but came back in spectacular fashion by trouncing the then undefeated Lucian Bute. It seems as if he has still been improving, and that he’s fresher, while Kessler has fallen off.
Of course, we’ll have to wait until fight night to see how the action plays out. In addition to betting on the outcome of Froch vs. Kessler II, and other bets on the match, such as the over/under for the length of the fight.
