Kelly Swanson of Swanson Communications has been in the boxing business for decades. Now though, she’s stepping through the ropes for charity. Swanson has announced her intentions to participate in a special charity boxing event in November. Below, find the details and her official statement:
After 20 years publicizing some of the top names in boxing and experiencing every aspect of those fighters’ lives outside of the ring, I have decided it is time for me to see what it is like for them inside the ring too.
On Saturday, November 16, for one night and one fight only, I am going to enter the squared circle and fight my butt off for a great cause. I have signed up to be a part the Fighters 4 Life Showcase, a special night of charity fights at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, New York. The event will raise money for Gleason’s Give a Kid a Dream. The program, started in 1991, gives disadvantaged and at-risk youth the opportunity to work with a professional trainer, learn boxing and help themselves see their way to a better life.
Most importantly I am asking for your kindness and generosity by supporting Give a Kid a Dream by making a donation in my name. Use this link (http://www.crowdrise.com/KellySwanson) and click on the “Donate To This Fundraiser Button.” You are just a few steps away from lending your support to a program that has benefited New York City children for over 20 years.
Despite my longevity in the sport, I have never practiced the sweet science for exercise until recently. However for the past several months, I have been training at Gleason’s with Heather “The Heat” Hardy (an undefeated professional fighter herself) and Devon Cormack (both in photo). With brilliant instruction and a lot of patience, they have taught me basic boxing skills. Also, through the many fighters I work with and know, I have learned about hard work, dedication and perseverance. All of this I will bring into the ring with me on November 16.
Thank you so much and now I am off to get my ring outfit, boxing shoes, mouthguard, walkout music and post-fight outfit. Of course I expect to see you ringside if you are anywhere near the NYC area. And if you can’t be there, a donation would be great and your prayers too. I need all the support I can get for this one!
With sincere appreciation in advance,
Kelly Swanson
P.S. – I don’t have a ring name yet. Please let me know if you have any suggestions!
