Here’s a first look at the upcoming megafight between two of the top fighters in the 140 pound weight division, Timothy Bradley & Devon Alexander
On January 29, 2011, finally, a showdown between two of the top fighters in the junior welterweight division will take place as WBO light welterweight champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley will face off against WBC light welterweight champion Devon “Alexander the Great” Alexander in one of the most anticipated unification title fights in the junior welterweight division in a long time. The venue for this fight has not been determined, although it may be taking place in Miami.
Both Bradley and Alexander are great undefeated fighters with Bradley boasting an impressive boxing record of 27 wins, no losses, and 1 no contest, and Alexander with another outstanding boxing record consisting of 21 wins and no losses. Somebody’s 0 must go!!
Bradley looked impressive in his last fight when he took his talents to the welterweight division and faced a very tough, undefeated fighter in Luis Carlos Abregu back in July of this year. He was awarded the twelve round unanimous decision victory. Alexander the Great did not look so great in his last fight when he, too, faced a difficult opponent in Ukrainian junior welterweight contender Andreas Kotelnik, but Alexander was also awarded the twelve round unanimous decision victory, although this one was in question.
This is going to be a great fight to start off the year of 2011. This fight could be described as whether or not Alexander the Great can weather the Desert Storm of Bradley. The winner of this fight will largely be considered the best fighter in the division, and one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world, however, there will still be a debate of who is the top guy in the junior welterweight division because the Amir Khan vs. Marcos Maidana winner will be lurking for a megafight, and other names like Victor Ortiz and Zab Judah are making a rise for a title shot, and so on.
Regardless of who wins the fight, I am just glad that Bradley and Alexander are getting the ball rolling in what we hope as boxing fans will be a snowball effect of great fights to come in the junior welterweight division.
