The second episode of Timothy Bradley vs. Juan Manuel Marquez 24/7 debuted on HBO on Saturday night immediately following Miguel Cotto’s fantastic showing against Delvin Rodriguez. Bradley vs. Marquez is just a week away, and the fighters are in the midst of their intense training camps and are ready for action.
The first thing we see here in Bradley vs. Marquez 24 7 episode 2 is Bradley talking about having watched the first episode. He was offended at Marquez’s offer to come out to his training camp, and said it’s really the other way around, and that Marquez is in trouble.
We stick with Bradley and see some of his training. He’s out there in the intense heat of the desert and it makes him work that much harder, and helps him prepare for the fight.
Construction is nearly complete for Bradley’s new gym. He’s been training at the local Boys and Girls Club for a decade, but now the Bradley gym is in action.
Next we switch to team Marquez during episode 2 of Marquez vs. Bradley 24/7. Nearly 20 years into his own professional career, and Marquez isn’t taking it easy with his preparations either. It’s hours before sunrise, and Marquez is out running in the mountains.
At the gym and there’s a huge group of kids training, and Nacho Beristain comments on how Marquez started from a similar path. Marquez has more fame and attention than ever, and Beristain actually says it went to his head a bit after he knocked out Manny Pacquiao. Beristain said he needed to have a serious discussion with him to bring him back to Earth a bit.
Marquez is training to make Bradley miss and then capitalize on those opportunities. He also wants to match Bradley’s hand speed. Marquez believes he’s too skilled and too experienced, and he’s going to be ready for anything and everything.
Back to Team Bradley, and we see he has a hyperbaric chamber in his home. He said he saw lots of NFL players doing it, so he decided to give it a try to help him recover from training, and he says that it really works. He needs his energy, not just for fighting, but for taking care of and keeping up with the kids.
He stays at home instead of going away to training camp. But for him that works and he stays motivated, and when he’s home from the gym, he puts that behind him and just focuses on the family. He also stays busy by helping to coach his son’s middle school football team.
With Marquez and his camp, training starts in the middle of the night. He goes through a fast-paced, high-tech workout at Mexico’s Olympic training facility with Angel Heredia. He’s happy to train hard, but in the heat of the moment tensions can run a bit high between trainer and fighter.
That’s not all Marquez is doing these days, though. He’s also taking lengthy yoga sessions with an instructor. Marquez says it helps him with concentration and breathing, as well as recovery, flexibility and agility as well.
For Bradley, trainer Joel Diaz has to work on not letting Bradley overdo it and train too much. But Bradley Sr. has a bit of an opposite view and continues to push his son, so Diaz is trying to manage that. But the hierarchy is clear, and ultimately what Diaz says goes.
Now we get a glimpse of Marquez’s new lifestyle a bit, including his fancy new house and his many sports cars. But it’s time for Marquez to leave Mexico City and get stateside for the fights. Usually his family stays at home, but this time Marquez is bringing along his 15 year old son. They have to go get his son’s visa though, so Marquez takes a bit of time off from raining to go to the embassy.
Family is what’s motivating both of these guys. Each man gives it his all in the gym, and loves the sport of boxing. Some big similarities between these two even as different as they may appear.
And now we’re in a staple of any good 24/7 show, the training montage.
Thanks for checking out our recap of 24-7 Bradley vs. Marquez episode 2 and we’ll be back with more updates on this fight over the next week.
