The European Light Heavyweight Title clash between Juergen Braehmer (39-2, 30 KOs) and Tony Averlant (18-7-2, 4 KOs) is just days away. Before the pair step into the ring at the Sporthalle Hamburg, Germany this Saturday, they met during today’s public workout. However, both contestants were keen on not giving away too much and kept the fans guessing in what kind of shape they are in.
Averlant and his coach Cyril Thomas started of their training session with some shadowboxing followed by rope skipping. The 29-year-old challenger only arrived in Hamburg this morning and wasn’t willing to put too much on display as Karsten Roewer, who trains with Braehmer, was just inches away following the spectacle inside the ring.
Although the Frenchman wasn’t that active during the public workout, he promised that it will be a whole different story come Saturday night. “The sheer amount of my punches will make the difference. I will be victorious,” said Averlant.”
Nevertheless, Juergen Braehmer didn’t seem to be impressed. After an intense preparation, the 34-year-old European champion will enter the ring fully prepared. “There is always a lot going on during training camp. We have been hitting the town every night, therefore there wasn’t a lot of time for training,” joked the German.
Of course the reality was very different. After hitting the pads coach Roewer said: “The remoteness of the camp was really good for Juergen. He is in great shape and that will show on Saturday.”
Hometown favorite “Golden” Jack Culcay (14-0, 10 KOs) was keen to impress the waiting fans. The 27-year-old will defend his WBA Intercontinental Light Middleweight Championship against Guido Nicolas Pitto (17-1 7 KOs), and many experts believe, that he will turn out to be the toughest challenge to date for the young German.
However, Fritz Sdunek, who currently works with Culcay, believes that his prodigy will win in convincing style. “Jack has been doing exactly what I have told him to during sparring. If he manages to take that with him into the fight, he will beat Pitto.”
