Change In Plans for January 21 NBC Sports Fight Night Debut
Heavyweight contender Eddie Chambers suffered displaced fractures of his left anterior ninth and tenth ribs in training and, therefore, has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled 10-round bout with Sergei Liakhovich on the inaugural NBC Sports Network’s Fight Night card from the Asylum Arena in Philadelphia, PA on January 21st.
Promoters Main Events and Peltz Boxing have reached out for a replacement for Chambers and will make an announcement as soon as possible.
This is sad news for Chambers, who was hoping to use this fight on national television against a name opponent to propel himself right back into title contention. It’s also doubly sad for him, as it was a chance to fight in front of his hometown fans on a big stage.
It’s also unfortunate for NBC Sports and their new Fight Night series, as the main event is now out the window. We’ll see what they come up with for a replacement opponent. Of course, as EPIX has learned with their endeavors into boxing, these hiccups are inevitable for televised boxing, and a successful boxing enterprise on TV has to be able to figure out a way to get past it.
