The long-rumored and much-anticipated Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana Welterweight title fight has been made official for December 14 from Las Vegas, Nevada. Broner vs. Maidana will headline a 4-fight Showtime Pay-Per-View, featuring a stacked and intriguing lineup of supporting bouts.
Carlos Molina will defend his Junior Middleweight crown against Victor Ortiz, Keith Thurman will take on Jesus Soto-Karass in what should be a sensational battle, and Alfredo Angulo will take on Jorge Melendez in another bout which promises great action.
Broner vs. Maidana isn’t exactly a premier PPV headline bout. In fact, it’s a pretty poor one. However, it’s a good fight, and it’s turned into a bit of a grudge match as Broner and Maidana have exchanged taunts and trash-talk over the past few months.
As a whole, the PPV will offer lots of action and excitement. I have no clue how Victor Ortiz earned a title shot against Carlos Molina, though. By fight night, Ortiz will not have had a fight for about a year and a half, and he’ll be coming off two straight stoppage defeats — against Floyd Mayweather, when he got cold-clocked and KTFO, and when Josesito Lopez broke his jaw and upset him.
Thurman vs. Soto-Karass is a very interesting bout. Soto-Karass will challenge anybody he fights, and this will be a good opportunity for Thurman to show just how tough he actually is when he has a live opponent across from him. Soto-Karass isn’t quite a top 10 fighter in the division, but he’s never an easy night, either.
As for Angulo vs. Melendez, that’s another fight which should offer plenty of action. Melendez is a pure slugger, and one of the hardest hitters out there. Angulo can’t help but be lured into a brawl, either, so it should be a good one.
