Olympic Gold Medal hero Luke Campbell MBE, current WBC Silver title holder, takes on Colombian Darleys Perez in an Eliminator on the 29th April 2017 at Wembley Stadium for a chance at the WBA Lightweight title.
The winner of the bout will face WBA Lightweight Champion Jorge Linares, who defended the title in a rematch against Anthony Crolla in Manchester last month.
Luke Campbell defended his WBC Silver title in February when making easy work of opponent Jairo Lopez when referee John David Lewis stopped the fight after Lopez’ 2nd round knock down.
Now Campbell has his sights on the WBA Lightweight championship and Venezuelan Linares as he aims to take down Perez at Wembley for the title shot.
“This is the fight of my career so far and I’m so excited to be boxing on this huge night at Wembley,” said Campbell. “I feel like I’ve been improving with every performance and believe now that I’m ready for a shot at the World title.”
But Campbell wont underestimate his Colombian opponent, who is 1 – 0 – 1 since losing to Anthony Crolla.
“Darleys Perez is by far my toughest fight yet but I need to come through this in order to face the champions. We have identified Linares as a fight we want and this win would put us number one in the WBA and in a great position to fight him. It’s going to be an incredible experience and I’m looking forward to shining on the big stage.”
Campbell and Perez will take each other on at a sold out Wembley Stadium on the 29th April 2017 in the undercard to the huge Anthony Joshua MBE vs Wladimir Klitschko Heavyweight title fight which also features former World Super Bantamweight champion Scott Quigg who takes on Romanian Viorel Simion at Featherweight to become a two – weight champion.
