Saul Canelo Alvarez has released an official statement in which he responds to some rumors which have been circulating that he is unhappy with his current relationship with promoter Golden Boy. In the official statement, he denies any other reports and states that he’s happy with Golden Boy and that’s all there is to it.
Here’s the official statement from Canelo:
“I am very happy with Golden Boy Promotions. I’m scheduled to travel next week to Los Angeles to meet with Richard Schaefer and Eric Gomez for a meeting that we hold after each fight.
“I have a contract with Golden Boy Promotions with which I am very happy. Any event or matter that points to the contrary is false.”
There’s no reason to think that Canelo would be unhappy with Golden Boy, it’s clearly a relationship which has worked out well for both sides. There’s obviously plenty of big fights and opportunities for Canelo right now, so it’ll be interesting to see where they go next, and whether it’s more of a tune-up or confidence booster type of opponent, or if Canelo gets in there immediately with another top fighter.
It’s likely that Canelo, Gomez and Schaefer are all watching tonight’s Miguel Cotto vs. Delvin Rodriguez clash very closely to see if that’s the direction they’re heading in next.
