Koufax. Drysdale. Valenzuela. Canelo? Yes, Canelo. On Saturday, September 1, WBC Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez will take the mound at Dodgers Stadium to throw out the first pitch before the home town Dodgers take on the Arizona Diamondbacks as he warms up his right arm before his September 15World Championship showdown with Josesito Lopez in Las Vegas, Nev.
Canelo will be on the mound at approximately 6:00 p.m. PT and the game begins at 6:10 p.m. PT.
He’s the latest in a long line of boxers to take the mound this summer. Interestingly enough, Josesito Lopez, his opponent, also had the honor several months ago, along with other fighters and boxing personalities like Robert Guerrero and Freddie Roach.
So let’s see what Canelo has on the mound. Not that the Dodgers need help selling tickets with all of the new players they have brought in, but you can be sure there were be plenty of Canelo Alvarez fans in the stadium as well.
