Jack Catterall believes he can send Josh Taylor into retirement after calling for a rematch with the Scot.

Catterall secured his second victory since a controversial split decision loss to Taylor last February, by outpointing Jorge Linares in Liverpool on Saturday.

Taylor, who was beaten by Teofimo Lopez on a unanimous decision in New York in June, was critical of his rival’s display through a flurry of posts on his X [formerly Twitter] account immediately after the bout.

Catterall insists a rematch with ‘The Tartan Tornado’ is at the top of his hitlist and says the rivalry has now become personal.

“I think it’s only natural that me and Taylor get it on,” the 30-year-old told Matchroom Boxing.

“It’s personal now and hopefully we can get that fight over the line.

“I think the way Taylor has conducted himself and the public really want the fight, so it’s only natural that fight gets made.”

Catterall’s promoter Eddie Hearn said he will be speaking to Taylor’s promotional company, Top Rank Inc. to finalise a deal for the pair to meet again.

The 32-year-old former undisputed champion is reportedly set to move up to 147lbs, however Catterall, who has also been linked with the winner of the WBC super lightweight title clash between Devin Haney and Regis Prograis on December 9, says the rematch can happen at a catchweight and believes he is capable of sending him into retirement.

“I honestly believe I can send him into retirement,” the Chorley man added.

“I beat him. Lopez beat him and I can finish him off for good.

“I think that fight sells any arena in the UK and I think it’s only right we get that fight in Manchester.”
