Female fighter Cecilia Braekhus is already considered by most to be the best pound for pound women’s fighter in the world. Now, on Saturday, September 13th, she’ll have the chance to make women’s boxing history, seeking to become the first completely unified and undisputed female welterweight champion.
Braekhus, who holds the WBC, WBA & WBO straps, is taking on Ivana Habazin, holder of the IBF belt. The fight takes place at TAP 1 in Copenhagen, Denmark, this weekend, and of course it also offers the opportunity to Habazin to reach those honors — although Braekhus will be a quite large favorite.
The Braekhus vs. Habazin unification fight is headlining a card properly titled “Making History,” and will be the first unification fight in female boxing history where all four titles are on the line.
IBF President Daryl Peoples stated, “On behalf of the IBF, I wish both of these talented women the best of luck on this day and congratulate them on reaching this pinnacle in their careers. Ivana Habazin and Cecilia Braekhus have worked hard to get to this point and as an organization we are proud to be a part of this momentous event in the sport.”
