Undisputed female Welterweight Champion Cecilia Brækhus (27-0, 7 KOs) is finally back in action on October 24. Brækhus has teamed up with new trainer Johnathon Banks, and is set for a high-profile undercard slot on the Wladimir Klitschko vs Tyson Fury world title clash in Düsseldorf, Germany.
‘’I can’t wait to get back in the ring and show once again why I’m the pound-for-pound number one. And returning on Klitschko’s big event, with my new trainer, is a huge step-up for my career, and a dream come true,” Brækhus said.
Brækhus’ opponent in Düsseldorf will be announced later this month.
On November 29 last year Brækhus, despite a serious injury in her right foot in the third round, successfully defended her fourth world champion title against IBO title-holder Jennifer Ratzke. After a complicated surgery and a long period of rehabilitation, Brækhus is now training harder than ever.
”My fitness and my hard training have always given me an edge over my opponents. I’m quickly moving forward to my best shape ever. Next week I’m travelling to legendary Kronk Gym in Detroit, Michigan, to level up my boxing training with Wladimir Klitschkos’s trainer Johnathon Banks. From Michigan we will move on to training camps in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Austria together with Wladimir and his team, to prepare for the title fights in October.”
”I’ll definitely be more than ready to defend my five titles once again”, Brækhus said.
Bernd Bönte, Managing Director Klitschko Management Group, commented: ”It is great that Cecilia fights on the undercard of this mega event. Wladimir recommended his coach Jonathan Banks to Cecilia, and after an initial training session they felt this is a great combination for many great fights to come. We are proud to promote our first female world title fight, and are looking forward to this great cooperation with Cecilia and her team.”
