Universum CEO Kluch is planning a bout for Ruslan Chagaev after his defeat in the World Championship bout against Alexander Povetkin. Heavyweight Ruslan Chagaev,27-2-1 (17), is reputed to get back in the ring this year, staying busy after the defeat and working his way back into contention.
The Uzbek said after his defeat against Povetkin that he wants to fight once more this year. “For me it is regardless of whether boxing eight or ten rounds. All I want is fighting. I need the practice. Next year, I want to rise in the official rankings to get a new World Championship bout. I absolutely want to fight this year”, said Chagaev.
His Promoter will host an another event this year, not at the Training and Eventlocation DIMA Sport-Center, but rather outside of Hamburg. Universum CEO Waldemar Kluch consults Chagaev and will plan a bout for him. “We would like to give Ruslan the opportunity to fight again and warmly recommend him for a World Championship bout. We are planning with Ruslan. He has the potential to attack the top of the world again. We are really happy to have a contract with such an experienced boxer”, said Kluch.
The 32 years old Chagaev was the underdog in the bout against Povetkin and showed an impressive performance despite the defeat. Povetkin was close to being hurt and even stopped in the middle of the bout, but Chagaev was not able to close the show against him. At the end of that exciting bout, Ruslan Chagaev lost by unanimous decision with scores of 112-116, 113-117, 113-117.
