Jermell Charlo believes victory over Canelo Alvarez later this month will deter Terence Crawford’s desire to face him.
Crawford, the undisputed welterweight champion, has called for the winner of the September 30 clash between Canelo and Charlo in Las Vegas.
Charlo, who reigns as the undisputed titlist at super welterweight, is moving up two weight classes to challenge Alvarez and feels a comprehensive win over the Mexican four-weight world champion will act as a warning of his ability to the Omaha native.
“I might not necessarily go back down [to 154lbs],” Charlo told Brian Custer on the Last Stand Podcast.
“I might meet him at 60. I might meet him somewhere.
“If you want to make a mega fight, I want to be the mega fight to make.
“Terence Crawford is not the mega fight to make. I’m the mega fight.
“Once I beat Canelo and I have that throne and I’m the undisputed champion at 168lbs, what y’all gonna do?
“Y’all gonna be wondering what’s going on next with Jermell Charlo.
“Yeah he won undisputed at 40, yeah he won it at 47, but then he biting a little too much.
“So he’s trying to come and fight me. What I do to Canelo might shut him up.”
Crawford is set to rematch Errol Spence Jr after the Texan activated his rematch clause, following a one-sided, ninth round stoppage loss in July.
The 35-year-old described Charlo as a ‘Lil Cub’ on social media in a reference which appeared to mock the 33-year-old’s Lions Only promotions brand.

‘Iron Man’ hit back at those comments questioning why ‘Bud’ labelled him hat considering his status as undisputed champion.
“I’m undisputed. I can’t be a lil cub,” he replied.
“I’m the big lion. I’m the big king.
“I don’t know what fisherman he thinks he is, he ain’t gonna go and poach me.”
