Chris Avalos Injury Leads to Fight Cancelation for this Weekend

Injured Chris Avalos off Saturday’s show in Panama

A hand injury suffered during training camp has forced world-rated super bantamweight Chris Avalos (19-1, 15 KOs) to withdraw from his scheduled fight Saturday night in Panama.

The 21-year-old Avalos, who is the WBO Inter-Continental champion, was slated to face Nehomar Cermeno at Roberto Duran Arena in Panama City. Avalos is rated among the top 12 contenders in all four major governing organizations (WBO #4, WBA #7, IBF #10 and WBC #12).

After losing to Christopher Martin last August in a battle of unbeatens, Avalos had rebounded with several wins in a row, and facing Cermeno would have been the biggest fight of his career to date. He’ll have to wait until a later date for another big opportunity after the injury forces him out of action this weekend.
