Talented and entertaining super bantamweights highlight the Thompson Boxing Promotions “Locked ‘n Loaded” fight card set for Friday, Oct. 18, at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif.
The main event features the veteran and technical Christopher Martin (27-2-3, 9 KOs) of San Diego against Enrique Quevedo (14-6-1, 9 KOs) of Los Angeles in an 8-round fight. The co-feature, also set for 8-rounds, pits volume boxer-puncher Juan Reyes (9-1-2, 1 KO) of Riverside, Calif. against Los Angeles-native Daniel Roman (8-1-1, 3 KOs).
Martin, known as an intelligent and fluid boxer, looks to avenge an early draw in his career that occurred at the hands of Quevedo’s twin brother, Daniel. “I know in my mind I won that fight,” said Martin, who has won three out of his last four fights by knockout. “It’s been six years since my fight against Daniel, but I haven’t forgotten. Beating a Quevedo is something that’s been on my mind for quite some time.
“Enrique has a different style than that of his brother. He’s a boxer that likes to come forward and apply pressure. Whatever he brings, I’ll be ready for it.”
Martin has kept busy since his last fight, a fifth round knockout victory against Raul Hidalgo in late June. “I took two weeks off after my fight against Hidalgo and then I was back in the gym,” said Martin, who is trained by Joe Vargas and Sergio Melendrez. “I was already in shape when training camp started. These last few weeks are all about fine-tuning our game plan, mixing up our sparring and staying fresh.”
“Martin is one of the more interesting fighters on our roster,” said Alex Camponovo, matchmaker for Thompson Boxing. “He knows how to use every square inch of the ring and he can very quickly figure out an opposing fighter’s game plan. These skills will come in handy against Quevedo because he is tough as nails.”
Martin and Quevedo made an appearance at the most recent Thompson Boxing event last Friday and posed for pictures inside the ring prior to the main event.
In the co-main event, fan favorite Reyes looks to get back on the winning track after a thrilling, all-action brawl against Jonathan Arellano that resulted in a draw. On the same August card, Roman defeated Jose Iniguez by second round knockout.
“I know I’m going to put on an entertaining show,” Reyes said. “I throw a ton of punches, while Roman likes to counter punch, so the fans are going to get an exciting fight.”
In other action, hard-hitting, undefeated bantamweight prospect Carlos Carlson (9-0, 6 KOs) of Tijuana, Mex. makes his Thompson Boxing Promotions debut against hometown rival Guadalupe Barrera (5-1-3, 2 KOs) in a bout scheduled for 6-rounds.
Preceding Carlson-Barrera is another recent Thompson signee, Israel Arellano (6-1, 5 KOs) of San Diego. Arellano, a lightweight, will be in a 6-round fight against an opponent to be named later.
Undefeated junior middleweight prospect Joshua Conley (7-0, 6 KOs) of San Bernardino, Calif. looks to add another knockout victory to his resume against Juan Carlos Rojas (5-6, 4 KOs) of Saltillo, Mex. Conley holds a split decision victory over Rojas that occurred earlier this year. This will be Conley’s fourth professional fight of 2013. The bout is scheduled for 6-rounds.
Featherweight prospect Erick Ituarte (5-0-1, 1 KO) of Santa Ana, Calif. will fight an opponent to be named in a scheduled 4-rounder.
Opening the show is undefeated heavyweight Justin Goslee (2-0, 2 KOs) of Los Angeles. An opponent will be named at a later date. The opening fight is scheduled for 4-rounds.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the first bell rings at 7:45 p.m. The Doubletree Hotel is located at 222 N. Vineyard Dr. Ontario, CA 91764 and can be reached at (909) 937-0900. “Locked ‘n Loaded” is presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions and sponsored by Lucas Oil, in association with Time Warner Cable Deportes.
