When a media conference call intended to promote the upcoming August 11th fight between Tavoris Cloud and Jean Pascal was cancelled this afternoon, the boxing blogosphere immediately got to buzzing. It didn’t take long until speculation surfaced that the fight was going to be postponed due to an injury to Pascal’s hand.
At this time, the postponed of the fight hasn’t been officially confirmed. However, it appears as if an announcement is imminent on Wednesday. There have also been rumors already about the new date for the Cloud vs. Pascal fight, with a weekend in October being floated, although far from definitive.
It’s yet another bad blow for boxing this year. Even worse, a highly competitive and intriguing co-feature was planned between Adonis Stevenson and Don George. The doubleheader was therefore a very solid one for Showtime, and one that fans have been anticipating.
It’s unclear if Stevenson-George will also be moved to the new date for Cloud-Pascal, but it does indeed seem unlikely that the fight would be bumped into main event status, and kept on Aug. 11.
As soon as we know anything else, we’ll pass it onto you. In the meantime, be sure to check out the rest of the day’s boxing news updates right here on ProBoxing-Fans.com.
