Cloud vs. Zuniga & Solis vs. Austin Results:
In action from Miami, Florida on Friday night, both of the big names that headlined the card won their respective bouts. Tavoris Cloud retained his title via unanimous decision over Fulgencio Zuniga, and Odlanier Solis worked himself into the title picture by defeating Ray Austin via disqualification in an eliminator bout. Check out the full details on the results below.
Solis vs. Austin Results
Odlanier Solis improved his record to 17-0 with 12 knockouts after he won his bout against Ray Austin via disqualification. After dominating much of the evening, Solis had Austin hurt in the 10th round. Austin responded by clinching and then pushing Solis, and eventually throwing a punch when the two were supposed to have been broken up. Austin drops to 28-5-4, and Solis is now the WBC mandatory to face champion Vitali Klitschko.
Solis weighed 260 lbs for the fight, which is far under his heaviest of 271 lbs, but far above his lightest professional weight of 246 lbs. He would be well advised to show up for his bout against Klitschko in better condition at around 240-245 lbs if he hopes to take home the belt.
Cloud vs. Zuniga Results
Tavoris Cloud defended his IBF light heavyweight title and improved his record to 22-0 with 18 knockouts. Cloud dominated Zuniga throughout, and although he knocked him down once, was unable to finish off Zuniga, who handled Cloud’s power surprisingly well. Final scores on the bout were 117-108, 118-108 and 116-109 for Cloud.
After another dominant effort, Cloud now finds himself in good position to face another big name in the division, with the likes of Chad Dawson, the winner of the Shumenov-Braehmer unification, and the winner of the Pascal-Hopkins bout all lurking around.
