On Friday, June 10, former world champion DeMarcus Corley took on Puerto Rican welterweight super prospect Thomas Dulorme (12-0, 10 KOs) at the Boricua Invasion 1, boxing event at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City and televised live on ESPN Friday Night Fights.
The fight proved to be Dulorme’s best performance to date, as he won the NABA Welterweight Championship by commanding unanimous decision, dropping Corley with a left hook in round three. All three judges saw it 99-90.
A few days later, having had time to assess being dominated by Dulorme for 10 rounds, the experienced Corley had some strong praise for his young opponent: “Dulorme is a very good fighter. He is very focused and precise. I have no doubt he will become world champion. He has the tools to reach the level of Cotto, Mayweather and Judah.
“What an honor for me that Corley said that,” responded an appreciative Dulorme. “His words will motivate me to keep working hard to achieve the goal of becoming world champion.”
Dulorme is now ranked #12 by the WBA. His next fight will be on August 19 at Juan Pachin Vicens Auditorium in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The opponent will be announced shortly.
