On December 2, Giving Tuesday, Danny “Swift” Garcia and his family kicked off “Championing for the Philadelphia Community” with a tour of outpouring for families in need this holiday season.
Danny started the day spending time at the Burlington Coat Factory at Center City in Philadelphia to provide three families from the Catholic Social Services – Casa Del Carmen with warm clothing items including coats, scarves, hats and mittens. The Hunting Park based charity, Casa Del Carmen, is dedicated to serving men, women and children in need within the Latino community. Danny spent time with each family helping them pick out their favorite items. Additionally, Danny met with fans at Burlington Coat taking photos and signing autographs.
Following, Danny, his family and friends traveled to Casa Del Carmen to hand out the remaining coats. When they arrived they unloaded the boxes full of coats, hats and glove, walking them into a room of over 50 waiting children and parents. After speaking about the importance of perseverance, community and overcoming adversity by coming together, Danny and his team unpacked everything, making sure that everyone in attendance left with what they needed. Each family also left with a signed photo of Danny.
Directly after he traveled to Universal Vare Charter School where Danny entered the auditorium to a thundering crowd of over 500 students and faculty cheering him on. Danny and his father, Angel, addressed the students stressing the importance of staying in school, getting an education, discipline, not doing drugs and above all believing in themselves because as Danny told them – “Dreams do come true.” Danny then announced he was making a $1k donation for their after school programs, prompting the students and faculty to erupt in screaming cheers, bringing many to their feet.
Following Danny on stage were his twin sisters, Sidney and Angelise, known as the musical group SiAngie Twins, who performed several of their songs.
Danny’s Tour of Giving Back and his mission to champion Philadelphia continues with visits to additional schools over the next few weeks on:
- December 9th : Antonia Pantoja Charter Scool
- December 11th: Roberto Clemente Promise Academy
- December 18th: J. Hampton Moore School
Each of these three schools will also be receiving a $1k donation to support and enhance their school programs.
