Darchinyan Has Triumphant Return to Super Flyweight
In the undercard match of the Bradley vs. Peterson fight, Vic Darchiynan returned to the super flyweight division to take on tough challenger Tomas Rojas. Darchinyan was expected to win the bout, but he made a statement in the fashion that he got the job done. Full recap of the fight below.
Rojas actually started the fight as the aggressor over the first round and a half and was getting more done than Darchinyan was. He had a large reach and size advantage, and was also surprisingly quick. Clearly Vic Darchinyan thought the same thing as he was caught off guard and got hit flush by lead left hooks and other reaching shots.
However, in the second round, following an exchange Darchinyan pressed forward and starting launching bombs. He missed with a big shot and then launched a tricky, quick overhand left that hit Rojas square on the jaw and sent him down to the canvas. From the television angle shown, it almost seemed like a body shot sent Rojas down for the count.
The announcers thought the same. However, it was a left hand to the face that then landed on Rojas’ chest, and sent him down until the ref waved it off as Rojas struggled on the canvas at about the count of 9. Darchinyan is victorious via a 2nd round stoppage win, and retains his super flyweight title.
