Boxing prodigy and the super middleweight division’s Red Flag, David “El Bandera Roja” Benavidez, will return to action on Saturday, April 30, at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
The undefeated phenom Benavidez (13-0, 12 KOs) will take on fellow power puncher Phillip Jackson Benson (16-2, 15 KOs) of Brooklyn, New York, on the undercard of the highly anticipated Andre Berto vs. Victor Ortiz rematch, part of a PBC on FOX prime-time tripleheader (8 p.m. ET), promoted by TGB Promotions.
The fight will be Benavidez’s third under the promotional banner of Sampson Boxing, headed by well-known boxing man Sampson Lewkowicz.
“David is going to become the youngest super middleweight champion in history,” said the confident Lewkowicz. “He is only 19. The youngest was Darrin Van Horn at age 22. And this fight against Benson, a guy with a good record who can also punch, will help him get there.”
Benavidez has already wowed a national television audience by stopping normally durable Felipe Romero, last November in one round on ShoBox: The New Generation and then followed it up with a KO 2 over Kevin Cobbs in a featured PBC televised bouts on a Toe-To-Toe Tuesdays card on Fox Sports 1 last January.
