David Price’s (18-2, 15 KOs) ring return has been delayed by a minor bicep injury. The British heavyweight suffered a slight tear in his left bicep during sparring and has been advised to pull out of his scheduled bout with Emilio Ezequiel Zarate (18-13-3, 9 KOs) on December 6 at the EWE Arena in Oldenburg, Germany.
‘’It’s frustrating as I felt that I was in the shape of my life going into this fight,’’ said Price, who was preparing for his twenty-first professional contest. ‘’I’ve been to see a specialist, who confirmed it was nothing serious, but advised me to avoid the fight on December 6.
‘’These things happen in boxing! It’s a minor injury and I’ll be fine in the next couple of weeks. However it’s not worth the risk of fighting before it’s completely healed. Next year is the big one for me, I will need to be completely fit and injury free. This is just minor setback, I’ll be back in the ring and back at my best in the next couple of months.’’
Said promoter Kalle Sauerland: ‘’This is a minor injury, it’s unfortunate but not serious. I feel for Pricey as I know he was desperate to get back into the ring, but this has no effect on our plans for the future. 2015 is going to be a huge year for the big man!’’
Price’s withdrawal is the latest injury blow to the December 6 show in Oldenburg. Yoan Pablo Hernandez was forced to postpone his IBF World Cruiserweight title defence against Ola Afolabi due to an elbow injury sustained in training.
Fans can still look forward to an action-packed night of championship boxing. Juergen Braehmer defends his WBA World Light Heavyweight Champion against Pawel Glazewski, Jack Culcay meets Karim Merroudj for the European Light Middleweight title and rising German super middleweight star Tyron Zeuge takes on Stjepan Bozic for the IBF International crown.
