Gervonta Davis’ hairstylist has responded to his claim that his vision was impaired against Lamont Roach, after getting his hair braided.
Davis was held to a majority decision draw against Roach at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday.
The Baltimore man voluntarily took a knee in the ninth round and ran over to his corner where his trainer Calvin Ford wiped his face with a towel.
Referee Steve Willis opted against ruling a knockdown, a moment which proved pivotal, with two judges scoring the bout 114-114 and another at 115-113 in favour of ‘Tank’, who retained his WBA lightweight world title.
Asked to his explain the incident in the ninth round, Davis claimed that his eye was burning from grease that was put in his hair two days before the bout.

“I just got my hair done two days ago and she put grease in my s***,” the 30-year-old said in his post-fight interview.
“You know when you’re sweating and things like that and it burnt my eye.”
However, the hairstylist in question, who goes by the name LeeTheBrand on Instagram, has denied his claim and posted a photo on social media of the product used, which contained ‘no grease’, according to the label.

“I did his hair Wednesday, it’s Saturday,” she posted.
“He did press, gym and weigh in.
“That’s no excuse, how much grease did I use damn.”

Despite calls for a rematch between the pair, Davis insists it won’t happen next.
“It probably won’t be this year,” he said in his post-fight press conference.
“It’s definitely the one I want next, but it’s not gonna be next.”
Roach, who moved up from super featherweight, where he holds the WBA crown said he’d be open to a showdown with WBC lightweight world champion, Shakur Stevenson if he could not secure a rematch with ‘Tank’.

“That’s what I want to do,” the 29-year-old said in his post-fight press conference.
“I want to fight the best fights.
“Hopefully we can get the rematch, if not, more than likely we can get in there with Shakur, because we already talked.
And if Lamont can’t get a rematch I got a big fight for him and a world title shot against me.. that’s my bro but we def can make something happen 🦾 good shit @OneOf1x

“It’s all about showing who’s the best.
“It’s all about good competition and that’s what I’m on.
“I’m in here trying to prove that I’m the best.”
