Streaming platform DAZN have secured the exclusive rights to broadcast Anthony Joshua’s world heavyweight title defence against Oleksandr Usyk on September 25.
Unified world champion, Joshua defends his WBA ‘Super’, WBO and IBF titles against former undisputed cruiserweight king and WBO mandatory challenger, Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
DAZN will be showing the fight in over 170 countries, although not in the UK and Ireland where it will be broadcast on Sky Sports Box Office.
“We’re thrilled to continue our strong relationship with Matchroom, Anthony Joshua and his team at 258MGT as the global home of boxing,” said Ed Breeze, EVP of Rights, DAZN.
“This fight will be an all-out Heavyweight battle between two of the best in the division, live from a remarkable stadium in front a full house of avid fans.
“The countdown is on, and we cannot wait to bring this epic clash to our subscribers around the world.”
Joshua appeared on the brink of securing an undisputed title showdown with WBC and Ring Magazine champion, Tyson Fury this summer and the WBO had cooled their demands for the 31-year-old to face Usyk and instead ordered an interim title bout between the Ukrainian and Joe Joyce.
However, when an arbitrator ruled in May for Fury to defend his belt against Deontay Wilder in a trilogy bout, the WBO reordered ‘AJ’ to face Usyk.
Tickets for the showdown sold out within 24 hours and the stadium will host the biggest crowd in the UK for a fight since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with over 60,000 in attendance.
Joshua is coming off a ninth round stoppage win over IBF mandatory challenger, Kubrat Pulev in December, whilst his rival claimed a unanimous decision victory over Derek Chisora in October.
Speaking ahead of the fight, Joshua said: “The date is set and we are fully locked in.
“September 25, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, I put it all on the line again and it’s time to defend my crown. We are two Olympic Gold medallists who have fought our way to the top and never avoided challenges.
“The stadium is exceptional, the atmosphere will be electric, I’m honoured to be the first person to fight in such an awe inspiring venue. The stage is set and I am ready to handle business.”
“The path will be mastered by the walking one,” Usyk said.
