Oscar De La Hoya admits he’s excited by the possibility of matching WBA cruiserweight world champion, Zurdo Ramirez against unified heavyweight king, Oleksandr Usyk in the future.
Usyk, a former undisputed cruiserweight champion, has previously spoken of his desire to return to the division after facing Tyson Fury in a rematch on December 21 in Saudi Arabia and De La Hoya feels Ramirez would be an ideal opponent for him.
“I think maybe after the rematch, I am going to go down in weight to cruiserweight,” the 37-year-old told The 3 Knockdown Rule podcast.
“I want more [fights at] cruiserweight.
“Maybe I can be undisputed for a second time in the cruiserweight division, it’s my plan.
“When I start to prepare for my training camp [as a heavyweight], I have to eat all the time. For me it’s hard, I don’t like it.”
‘Zurdo’ secured the WBA strap with a unanimous decision win over Arsen Goulamirian in March, a victory which saw him become a two-weight world champion.
The Mexican, who is preparing for a unification clash with WBO titlist, Chris Billam-Smith on November 16 in Riyadh, has recently spoken of his desire to move up to heavyweight to face the Ukrainian.
“Usyk is a small heavyweight but a champion right,” the 33-year-old told Seconds Out.
“I think it would be a good match.
“I have been watching him and following him a lot and that’s one of my goals, to be undisputed at cruiserweight, then heavyweight, and I’d probably fight him at heavyweight.”
Golden Boy Founder and CEO, De La Hoya admits he is intrigued by the prospect of his charge tackling the two-weight world champion.
“I’m excited not because of him unifying,” the 51-year-old said on DAZN.
“Yeah it’s pretty exciting, because it doesn’t really happen often.

“But the fact that Zurdo is talking about Usyk.
“And Usyk coming back down to cruiserweight.
“That’s pretty exciting.”
