The long-rumored Devon Alexander vs. Amir Khan title clash seems closer to being finalized. Now though, Alexander vs. Khan looks to be headed to the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York, on December 7th, according to a report on RingTV.com. The fight would head up a Showtime doubleheader or tripleheader.
Alexander’s IBF strap would be on the line, as Khan continues his latest comeback, this time under the tutelage of trainer Virgil Hunter.
Alexander vs. Khan would be an intriguing fight, and would leave Alexander with another title challenge from a British fighter. Last time out it had been the woefully overmatched Lee Purdy, a late sub for Kell Brook, whose fight with Alexander had been rescheduled and postponed a seemingly endless number of times.
The card would potentially also feature a crossroads match between Zab Judah and Paulie Malignaggi. Both are Brooklyn fighters, so the fight is a no-brainer for the Barclay’s Center, and would position the winner for yet another high profile match.
Richard Schaefer has also mentioned putting Victor Ortiz on the card, although that’s all speculation at this point. Ortiz has been pursuing his acting career, such as it is, and hasn’t been consistently training or looking to get back in the ring. So we’ll see if anything comes of that.
Alexander vs. Khan and Judah vs. Malignaggi would make for a pretty intriguing night of boxing on Showtime at Barclay’s.
