The WBC has ruled, at its 48th annual convention in Cancun, Mexico, that InterBox-promoted former World champion Adrian “The Shark” Diaconu (27-2-0, 15 KO), rated #2 in the talent-rich 175-pound division by the WBC, must face Chris Henry (25-2-0, 15 KO) from Texas for the WBC Silver Light Heavyweight championship title.
If both parties come to terms, this will mark the second bout between the boxers, who exchanged hostilities back in April 2008 with Diaconu winning a 12-round unanimous decision for the WBC Interim Light Heavyweight title in Bucharest, Romania.
The winner of this proposed bout between Diaconu and Henry would become Mandatory challenger to current WBC champion Jean Pascal, who must make his obligatory title defense in late 2011. Pascal and Diaconu fought twice already, with Pascal taking home two victories, and going on to defeat Chad Dawson. He also has a fight scheduled against Bernard Hopkins at the end of this year.
