In a battle of nicknames and knockout power, “Da Bomb” prevailed over “Da Beast”. Don George knocked out Cornelius White in the first round of their Friday evening bout on Shobox from Bally’s in Atlantic City. George, 21-1-1 with 18 KOs, came into the bout as the underdog, after suffering his first career loss last summer. White, now 16-1-0 with 15 KOs, had been undefeated, and was lauded as the fighter with more upside of the two.
After 60 seconds of opening round posturing, George cracked White with a right hand that sent him careening to the canvas. White, never having been tested before, was visibly shaken and surprised, and was still on wobbly legs as the fight restarted. George put him down a second time a short moment later, and then went in for the kill, forcing the referee to step in and wave it off after another extended barrage of punches.
For Da Bomb, it’s career rejuvenation, as he scores a first round TKO win over an undefeated knockout artist and prospect. For Da Beast, it’s back to the drawing board.
Official time for the bout was 2:02 of the first round. George vs. White was televised on Showtime, as the undercard to the Rico Ramos vs. Alejandro Valdez bout.
