Daniel Dubois’ dad has been on the receiving end of a tirade of abuse from a prominent name in British boxing this week, just days out from his son’s mammoth clash against Anthony Joshua.
Dubois will defend his IBF heavyweight world title against Joshua on Saturday night, with 96,000 set to turn out at Wembley Stadium for the Riyadh season-sponsored show.
That in mind, ‘Dynamite’ can ill afford to have his attention diverted away from the task in hand – however that may prove difficult given the comments made about his father by Spencer Fearon.
Fearon, a former fighter and promoter, who was once close to the Dubois camp, blasted dad Dave after speaking of a supposed row between him and trainer Don Charles.
In the explosive interview with Boxing Social, ‘The Knowledge’ labelled the 64-year-old a “scumbag” – twice.
“Don Charles said this fight is spiritual, but Don Charles hasn’t been here all week.. why?
“Because there has been some sort of rift between Don Charles and the dad.
“Daniel Dubois is such a lovely kid. But his dad is a scumbag! There, I’ve said it.
“No worker of iniquity can get a victory over Anthony Joshua.
“Daniel Dubois is a lovely kid, but his father? Nah bro, you’re not real. You’re fake.
“When Usyk beat your son, I begged for Don Charles not to lose his job.
“This is facts. I’m not speaking out of emotion. Do you really want to handle people like that?
“You’re a scumbag.”
Told by a rep for Frank Warren’s Queensberry that Don Charles remains Daniel Dubois’ head trainer despite rumours to the contrary and he will indeed be in his corner as planned for the Anthony Joshua fight on Saturday night.

There were rumours circulating on social media that Charles had actually parted ways with the defending champion, however it is now been reporting that the coach is actually suffering from illness and will be in the 27-year-old’s corner come fight night.
Many believe Dave Dubois’ influence was responsible for his son leaving Shane McGuigan’s gym last year, however there has been no official word on this.
