Daniel Dubois’ coach Don Charles has spoken out about the rumours that he and the 27-year-old are at logger heads.

The fight week for the showdown between Dubois and Anthony Joshua has been surrounded with questions around ‘Dynamite’s relationship with Charles, with the experienced trainer not showing up to any of the showcase events.

Theories that the trainer had been expelled from the camp soon went into overdrive, an almost unthinkable idea on the brink of the biggest bout of his charge’s career.

However, Charles has come out to set the record straight.

Speaking to Talksport, he claimed he had not attended any fight week events due to being sick and not wanting to risk Dubois’ health.

There’s a few individuals, for whatever reason, they went around spreading bad, vicious rumours that there’s been a fall out.

No, there has not been any fall out. I hate to disappoint them. We’re very, together [as a] team.

“The family and the training staff were very, very tight. So this fall out stuff, it’s all ludicrous. It’s a vicious lie.”

We finished camp successfully like a week ago. And then on Sunday, I felt not feeling very well.

“It’s a head cold, but a very bad head cold and I’ve been in bed literally trying to shake it off.

“The most sensible thing to do was not to go anywhere near my fighter because can you imagine if I gave this to him? Then there will be no fight.”

Dubois makes the first defence of his IBF world heavyweight world championship tomorrow night, with a record breaking 96,000 fans set to turn out at Wembley Stadium.

Talk of a rift between the heavy handed Londoner and Charles came as a surprise, given he has scored his two best wins – Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic – whilst under the 62-year-old’s tutelage.

Word had been that dad Dave Dubois had been at the heart of a rift, with speculation that he was also a key reason in his son parting ways with former coach Shane McGuigan

However, at yesterday’s press conference, ‘DDD’ himself also stated there had been no falling out, corroborating that that Charles’ trainer’s absence was simply down to an illness.
