Fairfield standout Alan Sanchez will have his hands full with veteran contender Ed “The Lion” Parades when the two square off in a 10-round welterweight bout on Thursday, December 4 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds – Bing Crosby Hall and live on FOX Sports 1.
In the 10-round junior featherweight co-main event, Sanchez’ fellow Fairfield contender Manuel “Tino” Avila will be facing Jose Luis Araiza.
Also in action will be San Diego prospects Ulises Sierra (7-0, 2 KOs), Jorge Ruiz (6-2, 2 KOs) and Bryan Nevarez (1-0). National City native Adrian Bargas (11-0-1, 7 KOs) and Jonathan Quiroz (5-2, 1 KO) from Oceanside round out the local quintet of talented up-and-comers who own a combined 30-4-1 professional record as they enter their December bouts.
“December fourth will be a great night of boxing in Del Mar with a main event featuring two skilled fighters – Sanchez and Parades – who both have a lot on the line,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Founder and President of Golden Boy Promotions. “In the co-main event, Tino Avila stands at an exciting point in his career — when each successive victory could bring him closer and closer to a potential title shot. But with each step comes more dangerous challenges for him and by going up against a seasoned opponent who has stood in the ring and ably competed with the very best, Tino will need to dig deep to keep marching ahead.”
Winner of nine of his last 10 bouts, with his only loss in that stretch coming via decision to former world champion Luis Collazo in 2013, 23-year-old Alan Sanchez (14-3-1, 8 KOs) has been thrilling fans for years. Fresh off of back-to-back knockouts of Jorge Silva and Jose Luis Ramirez Jr. in 2014, Sanchez can make a statement with a third straight knockout victory when he faces Paredes.
Fighting out of Hollywood, FL, Ed Paredes (35-4-1, 23 KOs) has the power and experience to make it a rough night for anyone he steps into the ring with. Unbeaten in 15 of his last 16 bouts, the 29-year-old veteran believes that the best is yet to come for him; all he needs to do is show the world by beating Sanchez in a highly-anticipated matchup.
Steadily moving toward the top 10 at 122 pounds, top prospect Manuel Avila (16-0, 7 KOs) has picked up the pace in 2014, defeating Enrique Quevedo, David De La Mora and Sergio Frias this year. Now hoping to close out the year with another big win that will carry him into a 2015 campaign that he expects will lead him to a world title shot, the 22-year-old has the motivation to put on a career-best performance on December 4.
Winner of two of his last three bouts, veteran pugilist Jose Luis Araiza (31-9-1, 22 KOs) hopes to recover from a loss in September to Rau’shee Warren when he faces Avila in December. The former top prospect will enter the ring at Del Mar Fairgrounds – Bing Crosby Hall hoping to hand Avila his first professional loss.
