Eddie Gomez Headlines on Friday from Puerto Rico

It will be a fight fans won’t want to miss on Friday, November 18, when unbeaten rising junior middleweight star Eddie Gomez steps into the ring at the Coliseo Nilmari Santini Martin in San Juan, Puerto Rico and risks his perfect record against Miami’s Antonio Infante in the eight round main event of TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate.”

But that’s not all. A clash of rising stars will take place in the featherweight co-main event when local Puerto Rican battlers Jiovanne Fuentes and Angel Cruz meet in an eight round matchup.

Gomez vs. Infante, which headlines a night of world class boxing, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Promociones Miguel Cotto and H2 Entertainment, and is sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and AT&T. The doors open at 6:00pm AT, first fight begins at 7:00pm AT and the TeleFutura broadcast begins at 12:30am ET/PT (11:30pm CT).

Fans at home can also be part of the action by participating in Cinturón Tecate and voting for the fighter in the main event who displayed the most character in the ring by sending a text message to 55333. Voting will be open through the end of the weekend.

A two-time Junior Olympic champion, Eddie Gomez (6-0, 5 KO’s) of the Bronx, New York has fought four of his professional bouts in Puerto Rico, quickly building a reputation as a compelling fighter to watch thanks to his ability to out-box opponents or knock them out. The owner of four first round knockouts, including a two-minute blast out of Marcus Hall in August, the 19-year-old Gomez is scheduled for his first eight round fight, but if history is any indicator, it’s not likely to last that long.

Miami’s Antonio Infante (6-1, 4 KO’s) first entered the professional game in 1998, and he tore through six opponents, winning four bouts by knockout in two rounds or less. He suffered his first professional loss in his last fight in July, but the 33-year-old is looking to get back on the winning track with a wining performance against Gomez this Friday.

After turning professional and competing as a flyweight thus far, Corozal, Puerto Rico’s Jiovanne Fuentes (5-1, 4 KO’s) will make his featherweight debut this Friday and Puerto Rican fight game insiders are eager to see what the talented “El Cepillo” can do at 126 pounds. A power-puncher who has ended all of his knockout wins in two rounds or less, Fuentes will put a three-fight winning streak on the line against Cruz.

21-year old Angel Cruz (6-1-1, 4 KO’s) has also showed impressive power in a professional career that began in 2009 and, like Fuentes, the Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico product is also unbeaten in his last three bouts with wins over Jonathan Arias and Juan Herrera and a draw against Jose Rivera in June. Looking to score a win and capture Puerto Rico bragging rights, Cruz is ready for anything Fuentes will throw at him on Friday.
