Jaron Ennis has described Canelo Alvarez’s showdown with Terence Crawford as a “50-50” fight.

Ennis has been seeking a clash with Crawford, who is set to move up two divisions to challenge Canelo in September in Las Vegas, with a deal close to being finalised, according to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger.

‘Boots’ believes his rival is up against it due to the weight jump, but admits he doesn’t make the Omaha man as a major underdog like the bookmakers do.

“That’s a 50-50 fight,” the 27-year-old told YSM Sports Media.

“I guess it’s a fight that everybody wants to see.

“It’s a good fight.

“It’s going to be a little difficult, because he’s going to have to put on an extra 14 pounds, so he might be a little slower or who knows, he could be faster.

“You’ve got to add more weight and gain more muscle moving up in weight, so it’s a little harder.

“But I don’t know, we’ll see on fight night how he’ll look.”

Crawford moved up from welterweight, where he held the undisputed crown to capture the WBA super welterweight world title from Israil Madrimov in August.

Alvarez defended his unified super middleweight world titles with a unanimous decision win over Edgar Berlanga in September and Ennis has advised Crawford to attempt to outbox the Mexican superstar.

Asked how the 37-year-old could approach the bout, Ennis added: “Be smart, take his time,” he added.

“Box and move.

“Don’t sit there and let him try and bomb on you.”

IBF welterweight titlist, Ennis is reportedly closing in on a unification clash against WBA champion, Eimantas Stanionis on April 12 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, with the bout expected to be formally confirmed later this week.

The Philadelphia man retained his title with a wide points win over Karen Chukhadzhian in November and opted against a move up in weight to face Vergil Ortiz Jr in order to pursue a unification at 147lbs.
