Today in Stockholm, Klara Svensson (15-0, 5 KOs) came face-to-face with Erica Anabella Farias (21-1, 10 KOs) for the first time ahead of her WBC World title challenge on Saturday night at the Frederiksberg-Hallerne in Copenhagen.
With only days to go before the biggest fight in her career, the Malmo-boxer revealed she is ready to take her place at the top of the light welterweight division.
‘’I’ve been waiting my whole career for this moment,’’ said Svensson. ‘’This is a dream scenario for me. I have the opportunity to take the title from the champion and establish myself as the best in the division.
‘’I’m expecting a tough, tactical fight, but I will be ready. I really feel like it’s my time and I’m not going to disappoint. I have a lot of respect for Erica and everything she has achieved but on Saturday night I will show no mercy.’’
To be the best Svensson must beat the best as Farias is widely considered the number one at the weight. Having claimed the light welterweight crown in her last bout, the 30 year-old will not be willing to give up her belt without a fight.
‘’Klara is good boxer but she is not taking my title away from me,’’ said Farias. ‘’I’m the champion and the belt will be coming back to Argentina with me. On Saturday night, I will be bringing fire to the ring and let’s see if Klara can handle the heat!’’
Despite Farias’ confidence, Svensson’s coach Joey Gamache believes the time is right for his fighter to dethrone the Argentinian champion.
‘’I really feel that the timing is perfect for Klara,’’ said Gamache. ‘’She has been improving with every fight and now she is ready for the big one. They say styles make fights, and Klara’s style is all-wrong for Farias. I believe we will see a new world champion crowned on Saturday.’’
Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: ’This is going to be a fantastic fight and a great advert for female boxing. We have the two top fighters in the division, the champion and the number one contender, going toe-to-toe for the world title. This is what boxing is all about!’’
