In this special video feature on Erik Morales from HBO Boxing, we take a look back at his recent battle against Marcos Maidana. In hindsight, and even in defeat, Morales was able to prove that he’s still a top caliber fighter thanks to his grit, indomitable will, and finely tuned technical skills. However, at the time, Morales vs. Maidana was deemed to be an extremely dangerous fight for El Terrible – including by critics on this website, who worried for his health and the potentially severe consequences for him of a fight like this.
Morales though hushed up the critics, even despite getting badly swollen up in the very first round of the evening. In the video, Jim Lampley and Max Kellerman talk about the fight, and you also see fight footage of Morales vs. Maidana with the two of them talking about it. We also see Morales commenting on the fight and his performance, and being counted out in that way like he had never really been before.
Now of course, Morales has picked up a title of sorts in the junior welterweight division, and he’s defending it this weekend against undefeated challenger Danny Garcia.
