Errol Spence STILL Hasn’t Resumed Training After Crawford Loss

Despite triggering a contractual rematch clause for another shot at Terence Crawford, Spence has still not returned to the gym.

Despite the fight being billed as a 50/50 beforehand, Errol Spence Jr vs Terence Crawford turned out to be anything but on the night, with Crawford inflicting a one sided beat down on the Texan  before scoring a ninth round stoppage.

Like all champions do, Spence expressed his desire to get revenge as soon as possible in the post fight press conference, and a contractual rematch clause existed to give him the opportunity to do just that.

However, despite confirmation that Spence triggered said clause in the fall, his long time trainer Derrick James admitted ‘The Truth’ has not yet returned to the gym.

James made the surprising revelation in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV.

“He [Spence] still hasn’t been back in the gym, he’s doing good though.”

“I’ve been seeing him and we’ve been talking and he’s doing okay.”

And though Crawford vs Spence 2 had initially been tipped by some sources to land as early as the back end of January, James confessed he in unsure as to what date now lays in the offing.

“I don’t know what date it’s looking like.”

Many observers have called for Spence to swerve a second showdown with pound for pound king Crawford, and there have even been calls for the former unified world champion to hang up the gloves entirely, so brutal was the punishment he sustained in Las Vegas this summer.

Much has been made of the effect that cutting down to welterweight may have had on Spence that night, and he has made no secret of the fact that he would prefer a rematch take place up at light middleweight.

However, as the victor and the firm A side, Omaha favourite Crawford holds all the cards as to what stipulations will be in place if the pair are to do battle next year.

Should a rematch with Spence not materialise, ‘Bud’ could get the opportunity to become a two time undisputed welterweight champion, after the IBF stripped him of their version of the world title and placed it around the waist (via email) of Jason Ennis.
