Chris Eubank Jr has parted ways with Terence Crawford’s coach Brian Bo Mac McIntyre and announced Johnathon Banks as his new trainer.

Bo Mac, who has guided Crawford to world titles in four weight classes, masterminded Eubank Jr’s victory over Liam Smith in their rematch last September.

The Nebraska man was infamously jailed shortly after the fight after a firearm was discovered in his luggage as he attempted to leave the UK, although he was later released.

Eubank Jr, who named WBA super welterweight champion, Crawford as a potential opponent, has split from Bo Mac after just one fight and will instead have former Gennady Golovkin coach, Johnathon Banks in his corner for his bout with Kamil Szeremata on the undercard of the undisputed light heavyweight title showdown between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol October 12 in Riyadh.

“Working on power shots a bit more than I used to,” the 35-year-old told The George Groves Boxing Club.

“Especially with my new trainer Johnathon Banks.

“That’s his thing and obviously him with Triple G over how ever many years, he knows all about the power shots, so it’s good to have somebody like that in my corner.

“He trained Triple G for his fight against Kamil Szeremeta, so that was another big reason why we wanted him in the camp, because he knows that fighter.”

The Brighton man stole the headlines during the press conference in London on Wednesday to promote his fight with the Pole, lashing out at promoters Eddie Hearn, Frank Warren and Kalle Sauerland after revealing why he chose to sign a deal with Ben Shalom’s BOXXER.

Warren said he would be taking legal action against him after he accused the Hall of Fame promoter of “lying and cheating his way through boxing” and labelling him as well as Hearn and Sauerland “scumbags.”

However, later on Wednesday, ‘Next Gen’ apologised and retracted the statements.

Eubank Jr said in a statement: “Following today’s press conference for the historic Riyadh Season on October 12th, I would like to retract my inaccurate statements and offer my apologies to Frank Warren, Eddie Hearn and Kalle Sauerland.

“I now wish to focus purely on boxing and preparing for a huge fight in Riyadh next month.”

Warren, who has been looking to make a bout between Eubank Jr and either Hamzah Sheeraz or Denzel Bentley, accepted his apology.

“I accept Chris’ apology and retraction.

“I too have said things before and apologise to him also if any criticism of him has upset him in the past.

“I look forward to seeing him compete on this huge Riyadh Season card.

“We look ahead to some potentially massive bouts in the future.”
