The much anticipated grudge match between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn is now just over a month away, with the family rivals set to lock horns at Tottenham Hotspurs’ stadium on April 26th.

Hype for Eubank vs Benn went into overdrive last month, when the former slapped his younger rival across the face with an egg following a heated press conference.

One man who doesn’t appear to be excited for the bout is ‘Next Gen’s father, Chris Sr, who has stated on numerous occasions he does not believe it will even happen.

The pair were originally scheduled to fight in October 2022, before news of Benn failed two drugs’ tests saw the event pulled just two days out.

And Eubank Sr said his nephew Harlem will be ready to take on ‘The Destroyer’ – in his words – “when” the fight with his son falls through.

“Conor used to be a 147 fighter, he’s being spoiled, he’s being misled, Harlem is the man for him.

“When the fight falls through, which it will, and I’m talking about Junior against Conor, Harlem is going to be ready. It may not be on the same date but thats going to be the next fight for them I believe.

Absolutely [it’s not going to happen]. I said it the last time if you check back when the fight was made the first time I said it’s not going to happen and the day before the fight it was pulled.”

Eubank fought Conor’s father Nigel in two memorable battles during the 1990s, emerging with one victory and one draw in arguably British boxing’s greatest ever rivalry.

Eubank was speaking following Harlem’s impressive win over tough Irishman Tyrone McKenna last weekend, where he dominated from the opening bell before scoring a tenth round stoppage.

Though a talented fighter in his own right, the 31-year-old’s profile pales in comparison to that of his polarising cousin and it seems unlikely he will land a fight against Benn in the near future.

Most observers view Eubank Jr as a favourite in next month’s blockbuster, however there are concerns over how much, at 35 years of age,  the reported 10lb rehydration clause will take out of him.
